James Albertson 1944 - 2015
artist / family guy
After graduating from the Art Institute of Chicago, with a BFA. Jim moved the SF Bay Area and earned a MFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, 968. He was included in the historic “Bad Painting" Show of 1978 at the New Museum in New York, due to his distinctive painting style. Jim was awarded two National Edowment for the Art grants.
Jim's work has been described as edgy, figurative, kitsch and cute and also raundy, uncompromising and sexualy satirical with taboo subject matter. Whatever the label, the art was infused with humor on a broader subtext.
Some of his later paintings include images from his collection of tribal art work from around the world. Jim also worked as a portrait artist in graphite and oil painting for many years, along with teaching 2D art at
American River and Sierra Colleges in
